Next DeLand Police Chief Search Is Down To 6 Finalists

DeLand, FL - The search for the next DeLand Police Chief has been narrowed down to a list of 6 candidates.

The following candidates were chosen Monday by a selection committee:

  • Dave Brannon, Volusia County Sheriff's Office
  • Lenn Carter, Denton (Texas) Police Department
  • Mike Coffin, New Smyrna Beach Police Department
  • Kevin Gyrion, Clinton (Iowa) Police Department
  • Dave Sklarek, Osceola County Sheriff's Office
  • Jason Umberger, Swatara Township (Pennsylvania) Police Department

The final 6 candidates will be in DeLand in April for a tour of the area. On April 11, from 6:00 - 9:00 PM at the Chrisholm Center, 520 S Clara Ave., DeLand, candidates will hold a town hall and will be able to meet with the citizens of DeLand. Another town hall meeting will be held April 12, from 6:00 - 9:00 PM at the Sandborn Center, 815 S Alabama Ave., DeLand.

On April 13, the selection committee will choose the next police chief at the Sandborn Center. The DeLand City Manager, Michael Pleus, will make the final call on which candidate is chosen for the job.
