Volusia County, FL- The Volusia County Sheriff's Office unveiled its new Crime Center this afternoon. The fully-integrated facility has been in the works for more than two years. Sheriff Ben Johnson said the money used to create the Crime Center comes from confiscated funds such as illegal activity like narcotics. Johnson said the plan is to have the Sheriff's Office connected to cameras in schools and other public buildings. The analysts in the Crime Center will be able to direct officers and other first responders directly to an incident. Captain Paul Kammerer is head of Investigative Services and the Commander of the new Crime Center. He said one of the purposes of the Crime Center is officer safety. Kammerer said that analysts working in the Center will have access to law enforcement databases, public databases and other sites that help them bring the information together and funnel it to the officer on the scene. The Crime Center is housed at the Sheriff’s Office’s Communications Center.
