Daytona Beach, FL-Going to a new school can be scary for anyone, even adults going to college. To help ease the transition, Daytona State College is offering students entering college for the very first time, an opportunity to earn up to six credit hours toward their associate degree. These credit hours are free with a savings of up to $700.
Terry Greenbaum, an education coordinator at DSC, said that the six-week summer bridge program is available through DSC’s TRIO Student Support Services. It begins Tuesday, July 5, and is available to first-generation, low-income students or students with disabilities.
There are some requirements. Students must have a high school diploma or GED, must be a Florida resident and be admitted to Daytona State College. Students with IB, AP and/or dual-enrolled credits are also eligible to apply.
Greenbaum said "Student Success" is a required course for all first semester students. It teaches strategies and skills needed to be academically successful and ensure a smooth, stress-free transition into college.
