New Smyrna Beach Man Dead In S.R. 44 Wreck At Prevatt

New Smyrna Beach, FL-A 60-year-old New Smyrna Beach man died at the scene of a multi-vehicle accident Wednesday at SR 44 and Prevatt Drive. Troopers say a Jeep driven by a Port Orange man failed to stop for a traffic light and hit two other stopped vehicles from behind. The victim, identified as Robert Sullivan, was in one of the stopped vehicles.

Troopers say it happened just before 5PM and two vehicles were stopped in the eastbound lanes for the traffic light. The vehicle driven by 39-year-old Joseph Hyden hit those stopped vehicles.

64-year-old Elizabeth Sullivan was the driver of the vehicle. The victim was in the passenger seat. She is hospitalized with critical injuries at Halifax Hospital.

A family of four from Orange City was in the other stopped vehicle and included a 6 and 12-year-old. All their injuries were minor.

The crash remains under investigation.
