Volusia County, FL – Tonight is National Night Out across the country, a chance for residents to meet each other and their local police officers and firefighters. Volusia County Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Laura Williams said that VCSO has events set up in each of their districts.

Williams said while National Night Out highlights neighborhood safety, safety is something that should be practiced every day. Something that’s really important is to always be aware of your surroundings. Williams said if you notice a suspicious person or vehicle in your neighborhood, it’s ok to call the Sheriff. She said they can make a trip through your neighborhood to check it out.

Other things you can do to keep crime out of your neighborhood is to always remove your valuables from your vehicle or at least hide them from view, and lock the doors.

The event in District 2 will take place at the Pierson Community Center from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m. First responders will be on hand and perform a K-9 demonstration. There will also be food, kids activities, and entertainment.

District 3 covers east Volusia County. The event will be held at Halifax Plantation in Ormond Beach and begins with a Neighborhood Bike Ride beginning at 5:15 p.m. The Sheriff’s Department helicopter, boat, and motorcycle will be on display. For the kids, there’s a bounce house, games and prizes.

Deltona is District 4 and the National Night Out will be held at City Hall from 5:30 until 8:30 p.m. Sheriff’s deputies will be part of a giant block party. Fingerprinting for kids will be available and there will be demonstrations by the VCSO Dive Team, SWAT, Motors and the K-9 unit.

District 6 is DeBary/Orange City. The event will be at the Sheriff’s Office D6 headquarters on 17/92 from 5:30 until 8 p.m., with kids activities and demonstrations.

In Daytona Beach, National Night Out will be held at the Midtown Cultural and Education Center from 5 until 8 p.m. There will be tours available on a fire truck and police mobile command. Food, music, games, and giveaways will also take place.
