Daytona Beach, FL - Daytona International Speedway (DIS), International Speedway Corporation (ISC) and NASCAR employees celebrated "NASCAR Race to Green" week by donating and planting trees at City Island River Walk in Daytona Beach.
Approximately 55 employees attended the event, planting 31 live oak trees and 250 marigolds, as well as rose bushes and trailing yellow lantanas. The group visited the City Island area for the 2nd year in a row due to the damage the trees and plants received during Hurricane Matthew in Oct. 2016. This is the 8th year that DIS, ISC and NASCAR employees have planted trees in the area.
NASCAR Green's Tree Planting Program highlights the "NASCAR Race to Green" initiative and is a call- to-action for fans and the industry to donate trees that will be planted across the country as well as in areas recently devastated by natural disasters. In partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, and with a previous partnership with the Virginia Department of Forestry, 403,000 trees have been planted across the United States. The program offsets carbon emissions from NASCAR racing for the next 40 years.
