South Daytona, FL - Members of the group MoveOn.org and other allied activists will gather at Reed Canal Park in South Daytona Thursday to hold a constituent town hall. The meeting is in response to the fact that Florida Representative Ron DeSantis isn't planning to hold town halls with local voters during the August recess. The MoveOn.org meeting will take place at 5 PM Thursday August 31 at Pavillion 4 at Reed Canal Park at 919 Reed Canal Rd. in South Daytona. During the meeting, organizers of the event say they will demand that DeSantis hold town halls and will hold him accountable on a variety of important issues, including healthcare, according to a news release put out by MoveOn.org. It is a part of what organizers are calling "Resistance Summer," a grassroots movement which aims to allow citizens in DeSantis's 6th District to have their voices heard. Some of the issues that "Resistance Summer" attempts to address are the Affordable Care Act, the escalating situation with North Korea, and Congressional investigations into Trump's involvement with Russia. Members of MoveOn.org say they want to hold Republican members of Congress accountable for votes on health care repeal and speak out in support of Medicare for all. They say they want to speak in support of immigration, continue to pressure Congress to investigate Trump’s ties to Russia, and fight for progressive values. The August organizing is the culmination of MoveOn’s "Resistance Summer," with 1,000 participants in all 50 states. The organizing so far included over 400 community cookouts in June and over 300 events through the Neighborhood Listening Project in July. Copyright Southern Stone Communications 2017.
