Motorcyclist Severely Injured & Burned After Crashing Into Sedan In South Daytona

South Daytona, FL – A crash between a motorcycle and a sedan in South Daytona on Saturday sent the driver of the motorcycle to the hospital with critical injuries, and the motorcycle driver was momentarily on fire as a result of the crash.

At around 11:02 AM, 22-year-old Gordon Allen Young III was driving a motorcycle near the intersection of South Nova Rd. and Carriage Cove Way when he crashed into the back of a Chevy Cavalier sedan, according to the South Daytona Police Department (SDPD). 79-year-old Ida Cruciani was driving the Chevy.

SDPD says that Young and the motorcycle he was driving were momentarily on fire before bystanders extinguished the flames. Young was wearing a helmet. He was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries. Cruciani sustained no injuries.

As of Monday afternoon, Young was in stable condition at the hospital, according to SDPD. He sustained severe burns on about 11% of his body but is expected to make a full recovery.
