Palm Coast, FL - A Palm Coast man is dead after striking a curb and then running into a tree with his motorcycle.

Paul Aiello died soon after the accident took place around 10:30 AM Thursday in the Hammock Beach area off of North Ocean Shore Boulevard/State Road A1A.

The Florida Highway Patrol says the 52-year-old Aiello was going westbound on Ocean Crest Drive near Ocean Crest Way when his Harley-Davidson hit a tree after going over the curb on the south edge of the roadway.

Paramedics took Aiello from the scene to Florida Hospital Flagler for treatment, but he died soon after arriving there, according to troopers.

The report noted that Aiello wasn't wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and that an autopsy is pending to determine if alcohol or drugs were a factor.

Aiello's death is the 2nd fatal accident so far during Bike Week 2016 and the 1st involving a motorcyclist.
