Daytona Beach, FL - A 35-year-old mom has been arrested by Daytona Beach Police after she let her underage daughter drink alcohol and then refused to get her medical attention when she became sick. On Wednesday, July 12, police responded to the Days Inn hotel on Ridgewood Ave. where Theresa Adkins and her two daughters, ages 13 and 15, were staying. The 13-year-old girl told police that her 15-year-old sister had been throwing up and that she told her mom that they needed to call an ambulance. Adkins told her daughter that they could not call 911 yet. At the time, the eldest daughter had been feeling ill for about 2 hours and Adkins put her daughter in the bathtub to try to calm her down. When the 15-year-old would not stop throwing up and shaking, Adkins finally called 911 and when they arrived, the 15-year-old was unconscious. In the ambulance on the way to Halifax Health Hospital, the girl told medics that she had been drinking Jack Daniels with her mother. The 15-year-old said her mom knew she had stolen the bottle from her grandfather, and that they drank it together at the hotel. DCF was contacted and the 13-year-old was placed in the custody of her grandmother. Adkins was charged with child neglect, child abuse, and contributing to a minor's delinquency/dependency.
