Memorial Day Weekend Tips For Resident & Visitor Beach-Goers

Posted

Daytona Beach, FL - This Memorial Day Weekend brings great weather and large crowds to our beaches, so it's important to stay safe and aware when planning your beach day.

Volusia County's Beach Safety Division predicts heavy beach traffic, moderate rip current conditions, and late morning high tides. They have a few tips that you should be aware of before you head out for some fun in the sun:

  • Expect lengthy closures of vehicle access ramps, up to one to two hours during high tide. The best time to arrive at the beach is before 10 a.m.
  • Travel north or south of the main roads like Granada, I.S.B., or Dunlawton to access the beach. Try finding alternative, less congested beach ramps.
  • Only take up one parking spot at the beach, and do not lie, sit, or camp between vehicles in the parking areas.
  • Off-beach parking is available at designated locations from Ormond-by-the-Sea to Bethune Beach.
  • Always swim within sight of a staffed lifeguard tower, and parents should always accompany children in the water, even if the children know how to swim.
  • Stay hydrated, but plastic cups are prohibited.
  • No alcohol.
