Daytona Beach Shores, FL - The Volusia County Sheriff's Office (VCSO), has determined the identity of the man whose body was found washed up on the beach in Daytona Beach Shores. According to Andrew Gant, a spokesman for VCSO, 40-year-old Clayton Kurt McCrea had been visiting the beach in Daytona Beach Shores with some friends on Monday. He went out into the ocean on a board. The friends left and came back. When they saw McCrea was gone, they thought he had left the beach as well. When the friends had not seen or heard from McCrea, they flagged down Beach Safety Wednesday morning to let them know McCrea had been missing. On Wednesday morning at around 7 AM, a woman found the body of a deceased man in the sand as she was walking along the beach near the 2000 block of S. Atlantic Ave. She reported the body to officials, and the body has since been identified as McCrea's. The Medical Examiner was called to take the body, and officials say that the body could have been in the water for a day or two. According to Gant, VCSO is still waiting for the results of an autopsy to determine the cause of death. "We really won't know until the autopsy is completed, but there weren't obvious signs of foul play in the initial discovery," says Gant. McCrea's family has been notified. McCrea did not appear to be in any kind of distress when he was last seen at the beach, according to VCSO. The Medical Examiner's office is still working to determine cause of death, and more information will be released as it becomes available. Copyright Southern Stone Communications 2017.
