Flagler County, FL-A manatee protection plan for Flagler County that addresses the concerns of the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service was approved during the Commissioners latest regular meeting.

District 2 Commissioner Frank Meeker said it's taken about five years for staff to come up with a plan that would satisfy the regulatory agencies. Meeker said the delay was holding up some economic development in Flagler County.

Meeker said after making some suggested tweaks to the plan and the agencies bringing in a very qualified consultant to check the language, he feels confident that the Flagler County manatee protection plan will get the stamp of approval.

Cities can choose to develop their own individual plan rather than follow the Flagler County plan. You can review the plan by clicking here.

Waterway manatee speed zones are now in effect. Warm season speed zones are in effect from May 1 to September 7 for boats and other watercraft on the Intracoastal Waterway. Slow speed zones are primarily from north of the Lehigh Canal to just south of State Road 100 and from the canals south of State Road 100 to Gamble Rogers State Park. You can see the zone areas by clicking here.
