South Daytona, FL - A man was shot in the leg as he wrestled with a suspect in an attempted carjacking at the Golfview Apartment Complex in South Daytona.

The South Daytona Police Department (SDPD) responded to a 911 call in reference to a man being shot in the leg on Saturday, April 15, a little after 10 PM.

According to the SDPD, the victim, Michael Hahn, had loaded his household trash into his pickup truck and drove to the rear of his apartment building where the trash compacter is located. Hahn exited his truck and began to grab his trash bags when he was approached from behind.

The suspect displayed a gun and began to physically fight with Hahn, who said he thought the suspect was attempting to take his truck since he (Hahn) was blocking the open drivers door to gain access. As the 2 fought, the suspect asked Hahn to let him go and to stop, at which point the suspect shot the victim in the left thigh.

The suspect fled on foot from the scene after he fired the gun and Hahn drove to the front of his apartment complex to call the police. The suspect was wearing a black, long-sleeve shirt and jeans, had short hair and is believed to be in his early to mid-twenties. The suspect's voice was described as "not manly" and "soft spoken."

The gun used was described as a small caliber silver gun, possibly a revolver. Hahn described the gun as no bigger than a 9-millimeter handgun. A witness near the scene told SDPD that he heard a single gunshot and then saw a white pickup truck exit the back parking lot and drive around to the front. Several other witnesses also said they heard a single gunshot.

The SDPD and the Daytona Beach Police Department conducted a perimeter search, but did not find the suspect.

Hahn was taken to Halifax Hospital and treated for his injuries, which did not require surgery. The bullet entered and exited his thigh.
