Volusia County, FL - A domestic violence incident in Daytona Beach turned deadly on Saturday afternoon when a man shot and wounded his girlfriend, shot and killed a family dog, then took his own life.

According to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office (VCSO), deputies responded to the scene at 1488 Old Kings Road after the shooting was reported in a 911 call, around 1:06 PM, Saturday, Feb. 25.

Witnesses told deputies that the suspect, William Cox, 37, pistol-whipped his girlfriend, Candice Hall, 31, while they were arguing. The family dog tried to intervene by attacking Cox, who then shot and killed the dog. Hall was shot in the abdomen, then ran from the house to escape. Cox turned the gun on himself and fired a fatal shot to his head.

Hall was taken to Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach. She had surgery Saturday afternoon and was in critical condition.
