Holly Hill, FL - He shot his cousin in the leg after demanding that he get his sunglasses back.

That's the story for 32-year-old Demetrius Herbert after he was arrested by Holly Hill police over the weekend.

According to the report, officers responded to the Maple Leaf Garden Apartments off 1202 Ridgewood Avenue around 1:30 yesterday morning (March 24th) with reports of someone who was shot.

There, they found the victim who had been shot in his right leg. He was transported to Halifax Health Medical Center as soon as police arrived.

At the scene, police met with two witnesses, the victim's aunt and the victim's girlfriend, who said the following.

The three of them were sitting in the apartment, when Herbert arrived, extremely angry, demanding that his cousin, the victim, gave him back his sunglasses.

First, Herbert banged on the door, which no one opened. Then, Herbert began to bang on the windows several times, yelling at his cousin to give him back his sunglasses.

The victim eventually opened the door but did not allow Herbert inside.

However, Herbert forced his way in as he yelled at his cousin. Eventually, he would leave and tell the victim that he was going to come back and shoot him.

Just prior to police arriving, Herbert met with the driver of an older gray four door sedan and retrieved a handgun.

Herbert then returned to his cousin's apartment and began to bang on the door again. The victim's aunt yelled for Herbert to go away or he would call the police.

He ignored her and entered the apartment, armed with a semi-automatic handgun. Herbert entered his cousin's room, where he was sitting near his bed.

He told his cousin that he was going to kill him and shot him in the leg before leaving the apartment.

After interviewing the witnesses, police found Herbert in a nearby unit, where he was arrested and charged with attempted armed first-degree murder, armed burglary to a residence and aggravated battery with a firearm.

Herbert was also additionally charged for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
