New Smyrna Beach, FL - Update: Police have identified the suspect in a fatal overnight shooting that took place in New Smyrna Beach around 1 AM this morning.

Ruben Watson, 32, New Smyrna Beach, was seen walking away and into a nearby residence. Police summoned Watson to come out and he complied. He is currently in custody of the Police Department. Charges will be pending the outcome of the on-the scene investigation and interviews.

A 26-year-old man is dead and a suspect is in custody after a fatal overnight shooting in New Smyrna Beach.

Police found James Jackson on Washington St west of North Dixie Freeway with multiple gunshot wounds just after 1 AM on Friday. He was brought to FL Hospital New Smyrna where he died from his wounds.

Police say the suspected gunman is in custody and is being questioned. Investigators believe the 2 men knew each other.
