Oak Hill, FL - A Volusia County man, who fatally shot a friend while they were hunting near Oak Hill in 2016 and said he mistook that friend for a deer, was given 15 years of probation and no prison time.
58-year-old Leeshawn Sutton was indicted for manslaughter earlier this year after he shot and killed his friend, 65-year-old Bruce Best, with a 12-gauge shotgun while they were in a wooded, swampy area west of I-95 and north of Maytown Rd. in January 2016. Sutton was also charged with hunting with unregistered dogs.
Sutton had turned himself in during May of this year after being indicted by a grand jury. He pled no contest to the charges on December 6, according to court records. As a condition of the plea agreement, Sutton is not allowed to hunt or own any firearms or ammunition while he is on probation.
