Holly Hill, FL-Update: Police identify the man hit and killed by a train Wednesday as 25-year-old Nicholas Merritt of Holly Hill.
Earlier reporting: Holly Hill police are investigating after a man was hit and killed by a train early today at the crossing at 8th Street. The call to 911 emergency dispatch came in around 4:07 AM.
Police Deputy Chief Jeff Miller says the man was on foot. Notification to next of kin is being done this morning.
This is the second train fatality in Holly Hill this year. A man was hit and killed by a train in March.
Miller says people need to know that the property where train tracks run up and down the coast here is private, owned by the FEC and is strictly no trespassing.
Miller says, "I tell people, if you can feel the breeze from the train passing by you are too close".
