Daytona Beach, FL - A man in Daytona Beach was arrested Sunday afternoon for making a fake 911 call, claiming that a woman had been shot, just so police would help him find his cell phone. Police responded to a home on Belair Dr. in Daytona Beach just before 12:24 PM after 23-year-old Eric Ross told them a woman had been shot inside the home and that the man who shot her was still armed. Ross told police that the woman was lying in the yard gasping for air and that there were children in the home, according to police reports. Police found out that the call was all a ruse. When police found Ross sitting along the northwest corner of the home, they initially questioned him as a possible suspect. Ross admitted that the call was all a plan to get police to come. There were approximately three adults and 11 children inside the residence, but none of them were ever in any danger, and there was never any gunshot. According to the arrest report, Ross said he made the 911 call because he hoped police would help him find the cell phone he thought was inside the house. Upon further investigation, police questioned Basima Amawi, one of the adult females inside the house, who said that Ross had come there mistakenly thinking that his cell phone was inside. Amawi told Ross that the phone was not there, and Ross then tried to enter the home. It was then that Amawi pushed Ross outside. Amawi did not want to press any charges. Ross is charged with misuse of 911 and unarmed burglary for trying to enter the residence.
