Palm Coast, FL – After getting several calls about a social media post threatening a school referred to as “MHS,” the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office and the Daytona Beach Police Department are reassuring residents that local high schools are not at risk.
The FCSO and DBPD Communications Centers got several calls on Sunday night regarding that threatening social media post, but a thorough investigation found that the “MHS” mentioned in the post is Monticello High School in Albemarle County in Virginia, not Matanzas High School in Palm Coast or Mainland High School in Daytona Beach.
Officials say a suspect has been identified and is in custody in the Virginia threat case. Nevertheless, increased patrols will be at all schools on Monday, January 8th, as students head back to class after winter break. School personnel are aware of the incident.
“We immediately responded to the reported threats and parent concerns and found that they did not take place in Florida. There was no credible threat to Matanzas High School,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “The safety of our children and school employees is a top priority and we will continue to have a strong presence in schools to dissuade this type of behavior in any Flagler School.”
