Daytona Beach, FL- A Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue vehicle and a 55-year-old man were hit by lightning Sunday afternoon in the Silver Beach area. Captain Aaron Jenkins said the report came in at 4:15 P.M., with the officer also reporting that his Jeep was disabled. The victim, who works at a concession stand on the beach, was on his ATV when the lightning strike hit the cart attached to the ATV. A witness, who also works at the concession stand, was about 20 feet away when the man was hit by lightning.  The witness reported that the man was lying face down. He turned him over and found him bleeding from the lip and unconscious.  EMTs said the victim came to after about five minutes, complaining of a burning sensation in his legs. He was confused at first but knew who and where he was. He had apparently bit his lip and suffered some lacerations when he was indirectly hit.   A check of the ATV and the attached cart showed signs that it had been struck by lightning. There was a hole in the ground and wood shards near where the victim was hit. The man was taken to Halifax Hospital for further evaluation as a precaution.
