Lightning In Daytona Beach Knocks Out Some Cell Phone 911 Service

Daytona Beach, FLUpdate: The Volusia County Sheriff's Office says the issue has been resolved and all 911 cellular service has been restored.

Earlier Reporting: This morning, lightning strikes in parts of Daytona have disconnected 911 service for some cell phone users.

The affected area is around Tiger Bay Road in Daytona Beach. The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office (VCSO) Communication Center has confirmed that some AT&T customers cannot call 911 from their cell phones, and that other cell phone carriers may be affected as well.

Both the VSCO Communication Center and AT&T are working together to restore service to those affected. Those who are affected are asked to use a landline to call 911. The VCSO will being updating progress and will let the public know when the issue is fixed.
