Deltona, FL-A free "Bear Aware" workshop, presented by the Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Gardens, is scheduled later this month at the Deltona Regional Library.

Stephannie Allen, a marketing specialist for the Zoo, is the presenter. She said the purpose of the workshop is to share information on how to live with bears.

Allen said knowing what to do when you encounter a bear, whether on a hiking trail or in your backyard, is very important. She has some suggestions for different bear encounters.

Bears are not particularly fond of conflict. Allen said the best way to deal with a bear encounter is to remove yourself from the area slowly. Also, Florida black bears are excellent tree climbers so that probably won't help you in a bear encounter.

The "Bear Aware" workshop takes place at the Deltona Regional Library on Tuesday, June 27 at 5:30 P.M. Reservations are not required.
