Learn To Be A Deputy Sheriff, FCSO Citizen Academy Open For Registration

Flagler County, FL - Learn to be a Deputy Sheriff in the Flagler County Sheriff's Office's (FCSO) Citizens Academy. Registration is now open.

The 6-week Citizens Academy program meets every Tuesday and Thursday from 6-9 PM at the Sheriff's Operations Center, 901 Moody Blvd., Bunnell. The Academy begins Tuesday, March 28 and ends Thursday, May 4. It's free and designed to give residents an inside look at local law enforcement officers and other public safety providers.

Material for traditional law enforcement academy is included, but the program is not a certification course for deputy or emergency responder.

Academy classes are taught by the Sheriff's Office command staff and civilian personnel. Questions are encouraged and this is an opportunity to express concerns.

Students will visit the Flagler County Communications Center, where dispatchers work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to handle emergency calls. They will also visit the Detention facility, the Community Policing Division and the Investigative Services Division, which investigates property crimes, sex crimes, missing persons cases, narcotics, fraud and includes crime scene investigation (CSI).

Students will also meet members of the specialized Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, Marine & Dive, Agriculture and Ranch and K-9 units.

To be eligible for the Citizens Academy, participants must be at least 18 yeras old, live or work in Flagler County, have no prior felony convictions and no misdemeanor arrests within the last 12 months.
