Daytona Beach, FL-A 24-year-old man has been sentenced to life in prison after a jury in Daytona Beach found him guilty in a 2016 armed carjacking and armed robbery. Kenneth Kirkland was sentenced late Friday after the jury deliberated only two hours before returning a verdict at his trial in May 2016. In August 2015 police say Kirkland and another man took a Mazda sedan at gunpoint around midnight from Brittney Johnson as she unloaded her belongings from the vehicle. The case of Keandre Ponder, the co-defendant in the crime, is pending. Police say the pair left that crime and a short time later robbed a man at gunpoint of his wallet a short distance away. Both victims said the suspects were driving a maroon Buick sedan during the crimes. Kirkland's record includes six prior felony convictions and he was on probation at the time of the most recent crimes. Kirkland was sentenced to 15 years in a state prison for violating his robbery probation with the 2015 crimes. The judge in the case pronounced sentence Friday.
