Posted
DeLand, FL - Volusia County schools will begin registering students for kindergarten during the week of April 24.
The child must be five years old on or before September 1, 2017 in order to be registered for kindergarten. Parents or guardians must provide the following documents:
  •  A birth certificate or other legal evidence of date of birth
  • Immunization records signed by a physician
  • A record of a recent health examination conducted by a Florida physician
  • Two proofs of residence
When registering for kindergarten, families who have a summer 2017 VPK (Voluntary Prekindergarten Education Program) certificate can also register their incoming kindergartener to attend VPK this summer. To get a summer 2017 VPK from the Early Learning Coalition of Flagler and Volusia County, families can call (386)-323-2400 or (386)-736-5010. Each of Volusia's 46 elementary schools will implement a "staggered start" for kindergarteners on the first three days of school. This will give students the opportunity to receive individualized attention. Approximately, one-third of the class will attend on Monday, August 14, one-third on Tuesday, August 15, and one-third on Wednesday, August 16. All kindergarten students will attend classes together on Thursday, August 17. Parents will be notified by their school regarding which day their child will attend. For details on the exact date and time to register your student for kindergarten, parents/guardians should visit the district's website at myvolusiaschool.org.
