Juvenile Green Sea Turtle Successfully Treated At MSC; To Be Released In Ponce Inlet

Posted

Ponce Inlet, FL - After 2 months of rehabilitation at the Marine Science Center turtle hospital, a juvenile green sea turtle will be released back into the ocean on Thursday.

Adele is scheduled to be released at 2 PM on March 2 at the Beach St ramp in Ponce Inlet. It'll happen on the north side of the ramp in the no-driving zone. Paid beach parking's available on the south side of the ramp. The release is dependent on weather and surf conditions.

Adele was brought to the Marine Science Center on January 9 after being found stranded on Daytona Beach. She was cold and weak, had an electrolyte imbalance, a critically low glucose level, and she had an irregular heartbeat. She was covered in algae and barnacles and had internal parasites - all indications that the sea turtle had been suffering for awhile.

After a successful medical treatment plan that included antibiotics, vitamin injections, anti-parasitic medication, fluids, and a well-balanced diet, Adele has made a full recovery, and she now weighs 5 pounds.

15 sea turtle have been admitted to the turtle hospital for treatment so far this year, but Adele's the 1st to be released in 2017.
