Walking Tours To Educate Voters On Turnbull Bonds

Posted

New Smyrna Beach, FL - A referendum on the ballot in New Smyrna Beach pertaining to the purchase of bonds to be used to acquire land along Turnbull Creek is the subject of walking tours taking place Saturday from 8:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. and the next two Mondays, October 15th and the 22nd. New Smyrna Beach Public Information Officer Phillip Veski said the tours will allow voters to see the areas up close. Veski said the tours will feature subject matter speakers from the Marine Discovery Center, New Smyrna Beach Museum of History and other institutions. The speakers will share information about the local plan and wildlife and offer insight on how the Turnbull Canal System came to be listed on the national register of historic places. If you don't want to do the walking tour, you can also get information on the Turnbull Creek Bond issue from staff the New Smyrna Beach Farmers Market on Saturday, October 20th and the 27th. Veski said the bonds will be repaid with an increase to the millage rate. The amount of the increase would be determined by the terms of the bond. A page has been added to the New Smyrna Beach website to provide citizens with up-to-date schedules, resources and background information on the referendum and a form to submit questions online will be answered and posted for others to see.
