Flagler Beach, FL - A stretch of A1A closed in Flagler Beach by damage from Hurricane Matthew quietly reopened this morning with a visit by Governor Rick Scott to make it official. Scott made repairing and reopening the roadway south of the pier the top priority for FDOT in the days after the hurricane hit and made the roadway impassable. Flagler Beach Police Chief Captain Matt Doughney is stressing that the speed limit is 25 MPH on A1A through that area. "Most folks are used to going through that portion of town at 40 or 45 miles an hour," he said. "And that's not the case right now, it's down to 25." That's the same as the speed limit on the detour that went through a neighborhood during the closure, and Doughney says police will be out there enforcing it. A1A reopened at 7AM today. image0012
