Daytona Beach, FL- Hurricane Matthew's damage to the Sunglow Pier in Daytona Beach will be repaired according to general manager Luke Zona. Rumors swirled via social media during the storm that the entire pier had crashed into the ocean, but Zona says damage to the pier included a loss of about 180 feet of the structure at the pier's end and that the restaurant on the pier, Crabby Joe's, has already reopened. Zona says, unlike the damage to the pier during the 2004 hurricane season, they now have the right kind of insurance to pay to replace the part of the pier lost this time around. The pier first opened in 1960 and Zona has operated the spot popular with locals and visitors for 24 years. Zona was a guest on Daytona's Morning News on WNDB. Zona even met his wife on the pier in 1992 and the couple married on the pier. The Sunglow Pier is at 3701 South Atlantic Avenue.
