Hundreds March To Polls Following BCU Vote Rally

Daytona Beach, FL - With less than a week to go before Election Day, hundreds of Bethune-Cookman University students, faculty and staff took to the streets today to cast their votes. All of them gathered around 8 o'clock this morning (October 30th) at White Hall for an early vote rally sponsored by the BCU Student Government Association and Pre-Alumni Council.
From there, the group marched towards City Island Library in downtown Daytona Beach, one of five early voting sites in Volusia County for the November 6th general election. City police and BCU Campus Safety officers escorted the large group the entire way, blocking off streets in the process.
Among those walking around and speaking to the crowd before the march began were two Democrats looking for their votes. One was Nancy Soderberg, who's running against Republican Michael Waltz for the United States House of Representatives seat formerly held by current Florida GOP gubernatorial nominee Ron DeSantis. The other was Patrick Henry, who's battling Republican Elizabeth Fetterhoff to keep his seat in the Florida House of Representatives. Also speaking was BCU interim President Hubert Grimes, who encouraged the crowd - most of whom were carrying signs in support of Florida Democrat gubernatorial nominee Andrew Gillum - to make their voices heard. "This day is a day that makes a difference in not only your life but in the lives of countless numbers of people and for generations to come," Grimes added.
The rally caps off a week's worth of voter awareness events for BCU students.
