Daytona Beach, FL- Dozens of homeless people staying at two Ridgewood Avenue motels are supposed to be out of their rooms by noon on Friday. Daytona Beach has paid the bill at the motels since August 1 but the funding has run out. The cost to Daytona Beach for 11 days was about $25,000. The people in the motels had been staying at a temporary Salvation Army shelter for the last six months while Daytona Beach City Commissioners worked on a solution. They thought they had one and presented the old Armory as a temporary shelter in July.  Many city residents were in Chambers that night to express their disapproval and no action was taken. City Manager Jim Chisholm had the authority to spend up to $25,000 without Commission approval and used that authority to put the people in the motels. Private donors gave $12,000 to cover food costs. It's been reported that with the help of caseworkers, some of the people should have a roof over their heads soon but it's unclear what will happen on Friday. Copyright Southern Stone Communications.
