Holly Hill Police: 10-Year-Old With Record Of Car Thefts Tries To Steal Cars Again

Posted

Holly Hill, FL - A 10-year-old with a criminal record for car theft was arrested on Thursday for trying to steal cars from a Holly Hill car dealership. The 10-year-old was with his mother, who was looking to buy a car from Dean's Auto Outlet at 1090 S. Nova Rd. in Holly Hill on Wednesday afternoon. While the boy's mother was car shopping, Holly Hill police say he took the keys to a Saturn SUV and a Mitsubishi Outlander. According to arrest reports, the 10-year-old and another suspect, possibly an older male juvenile or an adult, came back to the dealership later on that evening and attempted to steal the vehicles. The vehicles did not start, however, because both vehicles were disabled by the dealership. The dealership reported the incident and showed Holly Hill police video surveillance of the two suspects. When the 10-year-old's mother was questioned about her son, she said it was not the boy's first time trying to steal cars. A background check found that the boy had a history of grand theft of vehicles. The 10-year-old surrendered the car keys to his mother, and the mother then gave the keys to Holly Hill police. The boy was taken into custody and charged with burglary and attempted grand theft. As of Friday morning, Holly Hill police say two accomplices are also being sought.
