Daytona Beach, FL - The Holly Hill man wanted for killing a bicyclist in a hit-and-run crash on the Seabreeze Bridge in July of last year turned himself into the Volusia County Jail on Friday morning. According to Daytona Beach Police, 28-year-old Christopher Whealen was driving a Dodge pickup truck on the Seabreeze Bridge in Daytona at around 3 AM on July 29 when he hit a man who was driving a motorized bike on the shoulder of the bridge. That bicyclist, 24-year-old Justin Gary, was rushed to Halifax Health in Daytona, and he died at the hospital at 7:18 AM that morning. Witnesses say speed was a factor in the crash and that Whealen was unable to maintain control of his truck. He fled the scene before law enforcement arrived. Officials were able to identify and question Whealen in the days after the crash, but the official warrant for Whealen's arrest was not issued until January 25 of this year, according to police reports. Whealen turned himself in at the Volusia County Branch Jail at around 1:14 AM Friday, January 26. He was held on $50,000 bail.
