Holly Hill Man Charged With Attempted Murder

Holly Hill, FL - A feud between two men during a break-up around three months ago leads to one of them arrested for trying to shoot the other, according to a Holly Hill Police Department arrest report.

20-year-old Kenneth W. Fowler was booked at Volusia County Jail after his arrest Sunday night (September 2nd) at his home on Royal Oak Circle in Holly Hill.

Officers were called to the home around 8 p.m. that night after Fowler told them he just shot at a man who was tailgating him in a white GMC Jimmy as he went east on Flomich Street in his blue Kia.

According to the arrest report, Fowler claimed he knew the driver of the GMC and he fired at least three shots at the vehicle after the GMC driver pointed a gun at him through the driver's side window.

Investigators say at least one of the rounds Fowler fired shattered that window, causing minor cuts to the driver's arm from broken glass. None of the rounds struck the driver, per the report.

When questioned later that evening, the GMC driver told HHPD that Fowler was friends with his ex-girlfriend and was there the night they broke up around three months ago over his suspicions that she was cheating on him.

The report notes that the ex-girlfriend - identified only as Amber - was arrested by Ormond Beach police that night for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after she allegedly threw knives at the GMC driver once he broke up with her.

The GMC driver claims Fowler approached him at a bar on Flomich just before shots were fired on Sunday night and offered to take him to the person who had set fire to his roommate's vehicle, per the report.

The GMC driver claims that both of them left the bar, got into their vehicles and drove off, with Fowler leading the way. That's when Fowler allegedly sped away heading north on Anniston Avenue and then west on Royal Oak. The GMC driver claims the shots were fired as soon as he turned onto Royal Oak.

Detectives determined Fowler's story didn't add up in part because the windows of the GMC had dark tint and there was no way Fowler could have seen a gun like that at night with the window up. No gun was found inside the GMC driver's vehicle or at his home in Ormond Beach after he let HHPD search both, per the report.

At least two witnesses told HHPD during the investigation that they had heard Fowler threaten people in the past with a gun.

Fowler - who is facing a second-degree attempted murder charge - had run-ins in the past as a juvenile with HHPD, according to Deputy Chief Jeff Miller. The nature of those run-ins is not available for public release, per Miller.
