Volusia County, FL-Beach Safety officials say lifeguards carried out a dozen rescues of twenty-five people today at the beach and warned of dangerous rip currents and building surf. A tropical weather system north of Florida is creating the dangerous surf conditions and Beach Safety expects to fly the red flag all weekend.

Senior Captain Andrew Ethridge says one man was brought to shore unconscious around 3 PM but was revived before he was transported by ambulance to the hospital.  Ethridge says a representative from County Emergency Management is riding with Beach Safety this weekend to see first hand what happens during holiday events. That information will be used in future planning.

Ethridge urges beachgoers to swim near a lifeguard and check on conditions at the beach.
