Daytona Beach, FL - A Hinson Middle School teacher has been arrested for attempted theft at a Daytona Beach Target store and trafficking in hydrocodone. Daytona Beach police say 46-year-old Kimberly Vicars walked into the Target located at 2380 W. International Speedway Blvd. on April 6 and tried to steal over 32 items worth $522.25 from the store. Vicars allegedly concealed the items in a tote bag from the store and tried to leave with the items. She was detained by the store's loss prevention team. Police arrived on the scene, and when they questioned Vicars, they found 29 hydrocodone pills in her purse without a prescription. The hydrocodone pills weighed a total of 12 grams, police say, which is above the designated trafficking amount of over four grams. Vicars was booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail for drug and theft charges. Vicars teaches eighth-grade language arts at Hinson Middle. According to Nancy Wait, Community Information Services Director for Volusia County Schools, Vicars has not yet reported back to work, but when she does, she will be reassigned to a position with no student contact until her case has been resolved in the courts. Vicars has no disciplinary issues in her file.
