Head-On Collision In DeBary Leaves Both Drivers Dead

DeBary, FL - 11/7/16 Update: VCSO says 89-year-old Kenneth Dawkins, the driver whose vehicle crossed over the median and into oncoming traffic in last week's fatal head-on crash in DeBary, died on Friday night.

He was being treated for his injuries at Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford, where he was pronounced dead.

Update: The man killed in Tuesdays head-on collision near the SunRail station in DeBary has been IDed as 49-year-old Broderick Thigpen of Orange City. 89-year-old Kenneth Dawkins of Deltona was the other driver, and he's still in critical condition at Central FL Regional Hospital in Sanford.

A head-on collision in DeBary has left a 49-year-old man dead.

VCSO got a call around 1 PM about a Jeep Cherokee driving recklessly. The caller said the Jeep had gone out of its lane and hit the curb multiple times. 5 minutes later and the Jeep, which was headed southbound, crossed over the median and collided head-on with another car. The driver of that car was pronounced dead at the scene. The Sheriff's Office says he's from Orange City, but his name's being withheld until family members have been notified of his death.

The 89-year-old Deltona man who was driving the Jeep was brought to Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford via ambulance and he's in critical condition.

VCSO is investigating the accident.

Both lanes of Charles R. Beall Blvd (US-17/92) were closed at the scene from Fort Florida Rd to Barwick Rd.
