Halifax Humane Society To Break Ground On Renovation & Expansion Project

Daytona Beach, FL – The Halifax Humane Society (HHS) is set to enter the third phase of its “Reimagining the Future for Our Community’s Animals” Capital Campaign by breaking ground on the renovation and expansion of the main campus building.

The building, which was built 60 years ago, will be under construction for approximately the next 10 months. On February 22 at 10 AM, HHS will host a ground-breaking ceremony that is open to the public. For the past several years, HHS has worked hard to raise $3.6 million to fund the multi-phase “makeover” of the shelter.

The first phase of the project was the construction of a three-acre community dog park. The second phase led to the construction of the Lee C. & Patricia Culler Boarding, Grooming, and Travel Center building. HHS seeks to provide public services above and beyond what a traditional shelter might.

“Our facilities, like many other non-profits, have grown piecemeal over time as needs increased.  But the goal with the third phase of the capital campaign was to really be proactive in creating a modern, first-class shelter that our local community could be proud of, and one that would better serve all the animals we care for throughout the year. The renovations will allow us to implement innovative approaches to solving some of the animal population challenges facing us today,” said HHS’s Chief Financial Development Officer, Pam Clayton.

The final stage of the project will also improve the shelter’s education center. HHS seeks to create more programs that will encourage youths to have empathy and interest in careers involving helping animals. HHS also hopes to provide new adopters training resources to ensure they choose an appropriate life-long pet.
