Seville, FL-Two bystanders are being credited with helping stop a robbery suspect Sunday night in Seville as he was attacking a store clerk. Deputies say the Kangaroo convenience store clerk was attacked after a man came into the store around 9 PM and asked her for money. 47-year-old clerk Karen Payne told the man she didn't have any to give him. She told deputies that's when he came around to her side of the counter, threw her to the floor and began kicking her. She was alone in the store but was able to scream for help and get off the floor to bang on the store's windows. That got the attention of a couple in the parking lot who rushed to help. 37-year-old Tyrone Jenkins tried to stop the attack but had to resort to punching the suspect. 22-year-old Jennifer Polgar was able to block the doors so the suspect couldn't leave. Jenkins was able to flag down a deputy on patrol nearby. The suspect, identified as 47-year-old Calvin Reese, was on the floor inside the store with bloody clothes and a cut above his left eye. Reese was taken to Florida Hospital DeLand for treatment. He was then booked into the Volusia County Branch Jail on charges of robbery and battery. He is held on $5500 bond. The store is at 1695 North U.S. Highway 17.
