Daytona Beach, FL - The Daytona Beach Police Department says goodbye to one of its newest recruits.
Officer Thomas Coulter's funeral service took place this morning at the News Journal Center, with hundreds of people in attendance, including representatives from law enforcement agencies across the country.
A procession followed the service, taking mourners from the News Journal Center to Lohman Funeral Home on Bellevue Avenue. Along the way, all vehicles passed under a huge American flag strung up by Daytona Beach's Fire Department between two fire engines in honor of the fallen officer.
It's unclear what the 25-year-old died of at this point, though it is suspected to be heart related. Official autopsy results are expected within four to six weeks.
Coulter died on Monday, three days after collapsing during a training exercise at DBPD headquarters. He had started his new job with DBPD a week before his death.
Coulter is the first Daytona Beach police officer to die on duty since 1998 and the ninth since the police department was formed.
