Palm Coast, FL – The Sheltering Tree homeless shelter is gearing up to host its 2nd Annual “Have a Heart for the Homeless” fundraising event in Palm Coast.

The Sheltering Tree is looking forward to raising money to support shelter assistance for those who are new to being, near to being, or chronically homeless. At 5 PM on Sunday, March 4, the fundraiser will begin at the Elks Lodge #2709 in Palm Coast. At 6 PM, a sit-down dinner will commence, featuring “Debbie Owen and Tony T” as the entertainment of the night. Tickets cost $35 and can be reserved by calling the Shelter at 386-437-3258 ext. 105, or via email at flaglershelteringtree@yahoo.com. Tickets can also be purchased within Aimee’s Hallmark Shop at Palm Harbor Shopping Village in Palm Coast.

There will be raffles and door prizes including a three-day, two-night Ocean View suite package at The Hammock Beach Resort and fine jewelry from Greg Lynn Jewelers. Attendees will learn more about the Shelter’s success stories and the struggles Flagler County’s homeless face every day.

The Sheltering Tree is asking the public to “open their hearts” to the issue and help support their efforts to continue providing vital services to those most in need. Since 2008, The Sheltering Tree has been feeding and housing the homeless during times of cold weather and, in fact, is Flagler County’s sole cold weather shelter.

The Shelter, staffed by only volunteers, is located at the First United Methodist Church in Bunnell. The shelter supplies the homeless with food, tents, sleeping bags, and clothing while they work with them to find permanent housing and prevent others from becoming homeless. The Shelter also provides transportation to help reunite families.

Donations are needed to allow the Shelter to pay for rent, insurance, food, cots, linens and towels, laundry service, and toiletries. The 1st Annual "Have a Heart for the Homeless” event brought in over $3,000 and organizers are hoping that this year will be even more successful. The Shelter is a nonprofit organization and is being operated by the Flagler County Family Assistance Center, Inc.
