Funding For HUMs Hope Place Is On The Agenda For City Commission Meeting

Daytona Beach, FL - In Wednesdays meeting the City Commission will discuss funding for Halifax Urban Minstries Hope Place.

According to the agenda, the Community Relations Manager Dr. L. Ronald Durham has recommended that the commission adopt the resolution which would give HUM a $150,000 grant to "develop and commence operation" of Hope Place, a homeless center which will serve unaccompanied youth and families with children.

This grant would be paid in 2 equal annual installments: one during the 2016-2017 fiscal year and the other in the 2017-2018 fiscal year. Each year after the 2017-2018 fiscal year the commission would have to decide whether or not to extend the agreement and provide more grant funding.

Another agenda item deals with additional grant funding for HUM, but in this case it's $25,000 to reimburse the organization for providing air or bus fare under the Traveler's Aid International Program, which helps homeless people in the city. Funds will be given on a monthly basis based on costs incurred by HUM. The agreement can be renewed annually. Dr. Durham recommended adoption of this resolution as well.

Funds are available in the general fund for both of these resolutions.
