Daytona Beach, FL - The Daytona Beach Fire Department and South Daytona Fire Rescue aggressively battled large flames at a garage apartment in Daytona Beach this afternoon.

The 2-story structure behind the main home, 210 Fremont Ave., was fully involved. The owner of the home lives in the main home and stated that the home is over 100 years old.

The quick actions of firefighters saved all of the surrounding structures and homes from any extending fire.

A woman and young child who are residents of the apartment were outside when they heard a loud noise and noticed flames coming from the garage. They relocated to the street away from the home and did not sustain any injuries. One dog inside the apartment at the fire did not survive.

The cause of the fire is unknown and will be investigated by the State Fire Marshal. The Red Cross was also notified to provide assistance to 2 adults and 1 child.
