Flagler County, FL - Flagler County is now accepting applicants for its free Fall 2017 Citizens Academy program, which is a ten-week course that introduces participants to the day-to-day operations of Flagler County government.

The Citizens Academy holds classes on Wednesday evenings from 5-8 PM beginning September 13. Registration is free, but class size is limited to 30, and applicants are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Participants will get the chance to learn about a wide variety of Flagler County departments, including Land Management, Community Services, Emergency Management, and many others. Each class will be held at different County facilities to give participants first-hand experience involving what each department does, including the 911 center, airport control tower, and a county park preserve.

The final session on November 13 will include a Q&A roundtable with the county commissioners and administrator and culminate with a mock board meeting, allowing participants to play the parts of commissioners and citizens. A ceremony recognizing this year's 13th graduating Citizens Academy class will be held Monday November 20 at 5 PM during a regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of County Commissioners.

If you are interested, you can fill out an application at www.flaglercounty.org/citizens_academy or request a form from PR & Marketing Specialist, Rose Keirnan at rkeirnan@flaglercounty.org, 386-313-4026.
