Four Arrested By DBPD After Brawl Breaks Out On A1A

Daytona Beach, FL - A public brawl in the heart of Daytona Beach's tourist area which went viral on social media leads to four arrests, according to the city's police chief.

It happened yesterday (October 7th) on State Road A1A, directly in front of Ocean Walk Shoppes.

Video posted on Facebook - most of which has since been removed by the social media giant for violating community standards - showed several people getting into a fight which was then broken up by officers with the Daytona Beach Police Department.

Witnesses tell WNDB it happened after a concert at the Daytona Beach Bandshell was canceled, upsetting some of the people who were there for it.

Speaking this morning on WNDB's Bennett & Bernier (full interview below), DBPD Chief Craig Capri says the incident wasn't as serious as it appeared to be at first, but it was complicated to handle because of the thousands of people around the area who were celebrating Bethune-Cookman University Homecoming Week this past weekend.

"It really wasn't a big deal in the scheme of things," Capri added. "The promoter kind of played games with the attendees and with the city and lied to us."

Around 5,000 people were in the area when the fight happened, according to Capri, who didn't elaborate on what he meant by "playing games" or how the promoter - whom he did not identify - lied to authorities.

"We just won't deal with him anymore," Capri noted. "We learned a lesson from this."

Contrary to initial reports, no shots were fired at any point, per Capri. No injuries or property damage was reported, either.

Even though the concert catered to BCU alumni and students, it was not a sanctioned event through the school or the city, according to Capri.

DBPD hasn't released the names of those arrested or the charges filed. This article will be updated once that is released.
