Palm Coast, FL - A former officer is facing charges after deputies find out he was drunk during a crash.

But, he ended up facing even more charges after deputies watched him try to stuff a bag of marijuana in his pants.

Yesterday (May 5th), just after 4 p.m., the Flagler County Sheriff's Office responded to the intersection of US-1 and Seminole Woods Boulevard for a crash with injuries.

When deputies arrived, FCSO made contact with 55-year-old Brenton Hodge, who was the driver of a blue Nissan that suffered severe rear-end damage.

But, as deputies talked to Hodge, they began to smell a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, his eyes appeared bloodshot and his speech was slow and delayed.

In body camera footage released by FCSO, Hodge said he spilled beer out of a trash bag and into his car by accident.

He was also asked if he drank before the crash, to which he replied that he did but earlier in the day.

When questioned about what happened, Hodge flashed his wallet and badge to deputies, identifying himself as a retired Ormond Beach police officer.

Hodge then requested medical treatment.

When paramedics arrived at the scene, law enforcement watched as Hodge left his vehicle and attempted to hide a bag of marijuana down the front of his pants.

FCSO immediately took custody of Hodge, before securing the bag, which contained several smaller bags of marijuana.

According to Brittany Kershaw with FCSO, Hodge was charged with DUI and possession of marijuana over 20 grams. He has since had his first appearance in court this morning (May 6th) and has bonded out of jail.

Kershaw also said that wasn't the only marijuana found on scene.

FCSO reports that the other driver in the scene could also face charges after deputies found marijuana and pills in his vehicle prior to it being removed from the scene.

Hodge was also found to be not at fault in the crash, according to Kershaw.

Both Hodge and the other driver were transported to the hospital for treatment following the crash.
