Daytona Beach, FL - The State Attorney's Office has announced that it will charge a former Daytona Beach Deputy City Manager with offering to commit prostitution.
The State of Florida announced on Tuesday, December 27, that it had filed a 2nd-degree misdemeanor charge of offering to commit prostitution, lewdness or assignation against 51-year-old Gary Paul Shimun of Daytona Beach, who was the Deputy City Manager of Daytona Beach until he resigned on December 16, 2 days after he became the subject of the prostitution investigation.
On December 14 Shimun made contact with an undercover female deputy who had posted an ad on Backpage.com in the adult entertainment "Escort" section, known for prostitution. He went to the hotel room provided by the undercover deputy, but became suspicious shortly after meeting her. He left the room and went back to his vehicle. Marked units stopped Shimun's vehicle but he was released because further investigation was needed to establish probable cause.
Shimun also reached out to another undercover number advertised on Backpage.com that day.This is an active prosecution and the case is pending so no other information is available at this time.
Investigators say Shimun never made a face-to-face agreement for prostitution, probably because he became suspicious.
