Flagler Warns Residents After Waste Management Issues Scam Alert To Officials

Flagler County, FL - Flagler County is warning residents to be alert after Waste Management notified Flagler officials about an e-mail scam in another state where an e-mail was sent out asking "valued customers" to wire money to a different account. Flagler County was notified Wednesday morning of the scam. “Residents should know that the County, both unincorporated Flagler County and Palm Coast, utilize the services of Waste Pro, not Waste Management,” General Services Director Heidi Petito explains. “Regardless, don’t fall for the scam.” If you receive a similar e-mail asking to wire transfer money to a different account, Flagler County Public Information Officer Julie Murphy suggests that you ignore the e-mail. "A business like that would never ask you to wire transfer money to a different account," Murphy warns. Flagler officials want to remind citizens that residents in the city limits of Palm Coast pay a monthly utility bill which is generated by the City. Residents in unincorporated Flagler County pay for garbage collection through their property tax bills, even those who use Palm Coast water utilities. Acting Public Safety Emergency Manager Sally Sherman says, “We appreciate Waste Management for contacting us about the fraudulent use of the company name. We want to do everything we can to protect our residents.” Copyright Southern Stone Communications 2017.
